چکیده

This paper examines the axiom of continuity in the context of a discrete choice experiment (DCE) where continuity implies compensatory decision-making. That is individuals are assumed to consider, and make trade-offs, between all attributes within choice sets. This assumption of compensatory decision-making is investigated through consideration of respondents’ trade offs when valuing alternative oil installation decommissioning policies. We test for the presence of non-trading preference structures. Choice patterns emerge consistent with always choosing according to the best level of a given attribute. When the choice patterns are analysed results indicate that 72% of respondents exhibited potential non-compensatory preferences. A number of factors influence this potentially noncompensatory behaviour including reported difficulty of the experiment and respondents’ socio-economic characteristics.

Application of Bayesian decision making tool in detecting oil-water contact in a carbonate reservoir

Detection of Oil-Water Contacts (OWCs) is one of the primary tasks before evaluation of reservoir’s hydrocarbon in place, determining net pay zones and suitable depths for perforation operation. This paper introduces Bayesian decision making tool as an effective technique in OWC detecting using wire line logs. To compare strengths of the suggested method in detecting OWC with conventional one, ...

A New Method for Detection of Backscattered Signals from Breast Cancer Tumors: Hypothesis Testing Using an Adaptive Entropy-Based Decision Function

Introduction In recent years methods based on radio frequency waves have been used for detecting breast cancer. Using theses waves leads to better results in early detection of breast cancer comparing with conventional mammography which has been used during several years. Materials and Methods In this paper, a new method is introduced for detection of backscattered signals which are received by...

Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading “FPSO” have become a popular choice since 1980s for marginal and fast-track developments where subsea pipeline is not an economic or feasible solution for export. Field development usually starts with a concept selection procedure which is constituted from a sequence of multi-disciplinary decision making tasks. As limited data is availabl...

OPTIMIZATION OF AN OFFSHORE JACKET-TYPE STRUCTURE USING META-HEURISTIC ALGORITHMS

Offshore jacket-type towers are steel structures designed and constructed in marine environments for various purposes such as oil exploration and exploitation units, oceanographic research, and undersea testing. In this paper a newly developed meta-heuristic algorithm, namely Cyclical Parthenogenesis Algorithm (CPA), is utilized for sizing optimization of a jacket-type offshore structure. The a...

A semi-automated approach to generate 4D/5D BIM models for evaluating different offshore oil and gas platform decommissioning options

Background: Offshore oil and gas platforms generally have a lifetime of 30 to 40 years, and platform decommissioning is a major issue because many of the existing offshore oil and gas platforms are reaching the end of their service life. There are many possible options for decommissioning offshore oil and gas platforms, and each decommissioning option can be implemented using different methods ...
